The Platoon had two German Shepard dogs as mascots at the NATO 17 site – “Dolly” and “Buda.” In late January of 1970, Dolly had a litter of puppies. We all had fun playing with them, which really helped to relieve the boredom of guard duty.
Top photo: this was taken inside the boiler room at the NATO 17 site. The boiler room was located next to our guard quarters.
Bottom photo: This shows the puppies where three of us are holding them in our guard shack. I am the one standing on the right with the keys around my neck and wearing the ADM patch on the breast pocket.
